Our comprehensive wound care program specializes in extensive and complex wound therapy through a multidisciplinary approach. We have an experienced wound care team that includes board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, certified wound care nurses, and a registered dietician. All of whom create and participate in treatment plans that specifically address individual needs. 

Louisiana Extended Care Hospital Lafayette Care’s comprehensive Infectious Disease program specializes in extensive and complex wound therapy with a multidisciplinary approach.  Our wound care team consists of certified wound care nurses,  specialized wound care physicians, a registered dietician, and an infectious disease physician who evaluate and create treatment plans based on individual needs.

Treatments we provide: 

• Specialized antibiotics tailored to combat the specific infection being treated
• Variety of wound care techniques, from negative pressure to skin substitutes and traditional gauze applications

Examples of Post-Operative Complications: 
Surgical Wounds: 

• A healing incision
• An open wound that requires advanced wound healing techniques such as negative pressure 

Diminished Function: 

• The inability to walk after a knee or hip replacement
• The general weakness which can occur after abdominal or other major surgery 

Post-Surgical Infection: 

• A complication of an abdominal or bowel surgical procedure
• The after effect of having an abscess removed  

We offer a wide range of cardiac treatments for the following:

• Congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease 
• Infections of the heart (Pericarditis and Endocarditis)
• Post-surgical care (heart bypass, pacemaker insertion, stent placement, valve replacement) 

For cardiac care we use these therapies:

• Telemetry (physical therapy with cardiac monitoring)
• IV and oral antibiotics
• Oxygen therapy with monitoring
• IV and oral blood pressure medications
